I added a magnetic light, the HTC mobile base and a Carter improved bearing guide - not that it didn't do a fine job with the original - the Carter only improved an already great saw. and Sawmill Creek. I've now owned this saw for 8 or so years having bought it right around when it first started getting reviews on the online fora like [.]. If I were to re-purchase I think I would get the new G0555X model - only for the additional horsepower as compared to newer saws as this one would now be under-powered - not that it really was or is, it's all about the feed speed. Since then it's been reviewed by pretty much all of the woodworking magazines and always gets high scores. My saw has worked flawlessly, was easy to assemble and has done everything I've asked it to do. For resawing I use a 1/2" Woodslicer - for everything else a 1/4" or 3/16" blade has sufficed. I've bought the riser block but so far haven't found the need for it so it's still in the box - I guess one of these days I'll put it on.
I read countless reviews of bandsaws in my budget range and the Grizzly GO555 was consistently ranked the "best buy." After placing my order I was able to track the order from the factory and it was delivered quickly and in perfect condition. Setup was easy and it cuts like a dream. The packing was very good and instructions were clear and concise for assembly. MAKE SURE you have someone help you handle moving the top half of the saw as the sucker is HEAVY. I would recommend purchasing the wheeled base. I made my own thinking I would save some money.buy the wheeled base.
It all went together just as it was supposed to with the directions. I am very happy with this bandsaw. It is everything that I wanted in a bandsaw. I have no complaints. Dan
In fact I had a very hard time to find anyone with a complaint about the unit. I am not one to buy anything based on the price, I care more about how it works and how the product is built for my needs. If your on the fence about spending another 100.00 dollars, or you're not sure, do some research and go for it. I read many bad things about other bandsaws, and issues people where having seemed to be all common complaints in my price range.
I love the fact that this unit can be upgraded and you can install the H3051 6" Extension block kit, that allows the bandsaw's cutting capacity to go from 6" to now 12". It seemed that in life when you buy cheap you buy twice. This was, and is not the case for the G0555. The G0555 took me about 3 hours to assemble, and to get it finely tuned. I currently use the G0555 in my commercial shop, all my employees really enjoy the unit. I looked at units from Sears, Delta, Jet and many more, and in the end I know I bought the best unit out there for the money.
The whole unit is built from heavy duty cast-iron, and you will need someone to help you take the unit out of the box, as the motor is attached to the upper part of the unit, it must be at least 160 LBS. This bandsaw is so smooth and quite when cutting hardwoods or softwoods.
I bought the G0555 because I needed a backup unit, to my surprise the old Delta unit became the backup bandsaw, I wish I would have know that before I spent 1,600.00 for it five years ago. I did my due diligence and researched online for about 3 months for a bandsaw, I never heard of Grizzly before and I read a lot of great reviews and this sold me.
Every other bandsaw I looked at was how you see it, is how you get it, NO upgrades available. The only thing I read, was the unit comes with a very cheap blade, and I would agree and when I changed the blade to a Timber-Wolf blade the bandsaw went up 10 more levels of WOW.
I paid 450.00 and my budget was between 350.00 to 600.00 for the same specs the G0555 offered. Therefore if your needs change your stuck with that bandsaw.
Happy hunting, I hope this helps you
Which meant we would have to get it to the ground. It needs to be listed somewhere in the product description, shipping, or something that these shipping considerations need to be taken into account before buying. The delivery driver would only push it to the back of the semi. We had to cancel this item. Also the quality of other items I have purchased from them has been good-excellent. Had we known all of this prior to purchasing, we would not have purchased.
And due to our location, we would have to get the bandsaw on a dolly, wheel it about have a block, turn a corner, wheel it another half a block, and then turn another corner and wheel it another half a block this time on a gravel alley to the garage.
For an extra $30 we could purchase a liftgate that would lower it to the ground, but then we would have to go from there.
I will say that when ordering directly from the Grizzly site, I have had no problems.
We were contacted by Grizzly after purchasing and told that because the item was 198 pounds that a semi would have to have access to our home (not a problem) and that we would have to unload it (problem).
As for the product itself, I do not know about its quality.
Still problematic.
We were already paying about $80 for shipping.
However, I have only ordered small items that could come UPS, etc.
I rated this as a 1 because I want others to be more likely to read this review so that they understand the shipping issues prior to buying.
