I bought this saw after reading all the glowing reviews on the "ultimate" bandsaw, Grizzly G0555. If the Ridgid doesn't meet your needs, it is an easy return at Home Depot. The extension block is a nightmare to install and is really useless on wider lumber anyway.
This saw comes from the factory with wheels out of line, with a blade the doesn't cut and a table that warps and fence that can't even be adjusted to within 1/64 of an inch. If you are a professional woodworker, I recommend that you pass on this saw. What a joke.
I returned this critter and just bit the bullet and bought the Jet. It vibrated so much that it almost "walked" around the shop. The 2 speeds are useless for my applications and the 3/4 hp motor on the Ridgid does a much better resawing job than the 1 HP on this turkey.
If you can't afford the Jet, buy the Ridgid. While it may be ok for the weekend wood butcher, It is no where near the quality of the Jet and no better that the $300 Ridgid.
Another great product from Grizzly. I think Grizzly should higher me for promo's. I absolutly love this saw, and with the price being what it is, you would be a fool to pass this one up. So long as you are not afraid of a little time turning wrenches and setting this saw up, there is no need to look at any other 14 inch bandsaw.
The saw has enough HP to rip wet driftwood I'm using for a table. I've had the 555 for about 2 months now and always find myself using it. The accurate rip fence is amazing once calibrated per the manual. It also does well with plastics with a high TPI blade. Highly Recommended.
When dealing with a company makes me want to pound my fist against the table I stop dealing with them. I have a policy not to deal with companies that infuriate me.
I have been a Grizzly customer for almost ten years and most of the time things go okay. If you value customer service and the ability to easily return defective or mistakenly shipped items you do not want to deal with Grizzly.
For me this is a huge deal. The equipment is decent quality for a good price. When things don't go okay you are up a creek.
You are now in the world where the customer takes all responsibility and returns can take months to complete correctly. I am a pretty mellow, fair minded person.
Grizzly is one of these.
Unbelievable deal at $500 (plus $80 shipping) I was expecting issues with the block alignment pins being wrong on the riser, having to grind them off etc - I'm happy to report everything lines up perfect - Setup was a cakewalk. This saw does not have a full cabinet stand, but the legset that comes with it is super sturdy. I read virtually all the reviews on Amazon about this saw (and also Jet and Delta) I had no doubt the saw was a good value, but was skeptical due to some reviewers stating that there were problems not being able to get the wheels paralles and coplanar - must be an old problem. I ordered the saw and the 6" riser. Fit and finish are excellent.Really nice having ball bearing guides, a fairly nice rip fence, a basic but functional miter guage, quick release blade tensioner - Nice heavy cast iron table with a good grind.Other than maybe upgrading to urethane tires and buying a decent blade or two - you will be left needing nothingGreat deal on a nice entry level 14" Saw. This is a must buy.
